Symbol, a Tel Aviv, Israel-based venture capital firm, appointed Racheli Kogan as Partner.

The first employee at Symbol, Kogan will work alongside Yuval Ariav, the founder of the firm.

Kogan joined Symbol at its inception as VP Platform and Investments, leading the evaluation processes for new investment opportunities and entrepreneurs. She also established Symbol’s platform, composed of leading professionals in strategic messaging, marketing, product, and user experience, employed by Symbol and working with the companies in a ‘micro-services’ model. Additionally, Kogan leads the fund’s activities that are open to the entire ecosystem, focusing on developing the field of early employees in young startups, and participates in the development of the ideation-validation area—working with entrepreneurs towards their next venture.

Kogan served as the HR manager at Next Silicon, and at the fintech company Fundbox, where she quickly led the company’s global expansion from 30 to 250 employees. Prior to that, she was the HR manager at Paretix and Leverate, and a recruiter at the Nisha Group. After her tenure at Fundbox, Kogan joined as a consultant to Aleph VC to support its recruitment team. Additionally, she was involved from the beginning in the establishment of the Give and Tech nonprofit.

Established at the end of 2021, Symbol is a first-check investor, focusing on ‘pre consensus’  entrepreneurs and startups – meaning entrepreneurs with an unconventional track record or startups operating in fields considered to be hard for VCs to invest in at early stages. They make investments ranging from $0.5M to $3.5M.

The firm has invested in the first funding round of 11 companies, seven of which have already raised subsequent rounds. The startups in which the fund has invested included Sightful, Breeze, Nilus, CardinalOps, Squire, and Jiga.

The firm has $50M under management.

Commenting on the news Racheli Kogan said: “My approach throughout my career, and in life in general, is that deep and authentic relationships create a safe space for creativity, provide the confidence to take risks, and thus also advance groundbreaking ideas. One of my main goals at Symbol is to create this environment for both the entrepreneurs of the portfolio companies we have invested in, and for founder-curious people from the entire Israeli ecosystem. At Symbol we strive to create a supportive environment, based on genuine connections, for entrepreneurs who have already established a company and are working on implementing their dreams, as well as for those who are just beginning to dream.”
