Shield Capital Closes Maiden Venture Capital Fund, at $186M

Shield Capital, a San Francisco, CA-based venture capital firm, closed its inaugural fund, Shield Capital Fund I, L.P., at $186m, oversubscribed at 55% above target.

LPs include institutional and private investors.

Founded in 2021 by Managing Partners Philip Bilden and Raj Shah, Shield Capital focuses on early stage venture capital investments in innovators building frontier technologies that matter in both commercial and national security markets in such fields as AI, autonomy, cybersecurity, and space.

Shield has already invested in more than 30 innovative companies including:

  • Albedo, a high-resolution satellite pioneer;
  • Apex, a satellite bus scale manufacturer;
  • Elroy Air, autonomous aerial logistics leader;
  • Nexla, data infrastructure AI enabler;
  • Overwatch Imaging, an edge AI image sensing innovator; and
  • Resilience, a cyber insurance risk manager.
